During a Summitwise mountain retreat, one leader discovered that readiness isn’t the prerequisite for growth — courage is.

From the climb up Mt. Huron to the reflections around the campfire, he found clarity, confidence, and a new mantra: say yes anyway. Because real summits begin with one bold decision.

I’ve camped my whole life. I’ve packed gear, pitched tents, cooked over fires, and trekked through forests more times than I can count. So when I signed up for a multi-day mountain adventure with Summitwise, I expected a solid experience. What I didn’t expect was a complete reframing of how I approach life, leadership, and my company.

From the moment I signed up, their attention to detail was next-level: pre-trip communication, gear checklists, contingency planning... everything was dialed in. Even the snacks for the hike itself were structured and had order and purpose. Once we hit the pre-dawn trail toward Mt. Huron, that precision never wavered. The climb was structured, supportive, and, yes, stunning. Every step felt intentional, with pauses carved out for both rest and awe.

I saw how saying “yes” (even when I didn’t feel fully prepared) was the key to growth

And the food? This camp cuisine could hold its own against any steakhouse! After a challenging ascent to 14,000 feet, sitting down to a gourmet meal was surreal.

But the real summit for me wasn't the peak of Mt. Huron. It was the campfire.

After the climb, we gathered around the fire — exhausted, euphoric, and open. Summitwise doesn’t just guide hikes; they guide conversations. Through intentional prompts and shared reflection, I found myself unpacking not just the day, but my own trajectory. Both personally and professionally. I spoke about Hermetheus Coffee, the company I’d founded, and realized how much I’d been waiting (and waiting, and waiting) to feel “ready” before taking the next leap.

That night, something shifted. I saw how doubt and uncertainty had been masquerading as caution. I saw how saying “yes” (even when I didn’t feel fully prepared) was the key to growth. I said yes to climbing a mountain I wasn’t sure I could summit. And I did it.  And so, that became my mantra: say yes anyway.

Since that trip, I’ve launched new facets of my business, embraced bold decisions, and leaned into opportunities that once felt premature. Hermetheus Coffee is thriving. What began as a tiny specialty coffee roasting company has grown FAR beyond my expectations. and I trace that momentum back to the firelight, the crisp mountain air, and the Summitwise team who made it all possible.

If you’re looking for an adventure, Summitwise will deliver. But if you’re open to something deeper, like a recalibration of what it means to be ready, brave, and alive, they’ll take you there too.

It all began with saying yes
